Registered Pharmacist
Dispense the right medicine. Counsel the worried parent.
What this role is, in plain words.
This is a counter pharmacist role at our Khadakpada shop in Kalyan. You will be the qualified pharmacist on shift — the person who legally signs off on what leaves the counter, the person a patient asks when they cannot read the prescription, the person who decides whether the strip in the back fridge is still fit to sell.
We are looking for a B.Pharm or D.Pharm holder registered with the Maharashtra State Pharmacy Council who treats dispensing as clinical work, not retail. You will run rotating shifts on a counter that opens at 10 AM and closes at midnight, alongside one other pharmacist and a counter associate.
What is different here: we are also building software (RASAYAN) for pharmacies like ours, and the floor team shapes how it works. Your shift logs become product feedback. Your dispensing edge cases become test cases. You are not just operating a till.
A typical week.
- Verify and dispense Schedule H, H1 and OTC medicines against valid prescriptions, recording H1 entries in the prescription register as required under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules.
- Counsel walk-in patients on dosage, timing, food interactions and common side effects — especially for chronic care (diabetes, hypertension, thyroid, asthma).
- Run the cold chain end to end: receive insulin and vaccine consignments, log fridge temperatures twice per shift, and quarantine any stock that breaches 2–8 °C.
- Check expiry dates on a rolling shelf-by-shelf basis and pull near-expiry stock 90 days out for return-to-distributor.
- Substitute generics where clinically appropriate and explain the substitution to the customer in their own language before billing.
- Handle Schedule X and any narcotic stock per state rules — log entries, lock storage, and reconcile at shift handover.
- Triage minor ailments at the counter (cough, fever, acidity, first-aid wounds) and refer cases that need a doctor, instead of selling something that masks the problem.
- Hand the next shift a clean register, a reconciled till and a one-line note on anything unusual that walked in.
Must-haves.
- B.Pharm or D.Pharm from a PCI-recognised institution.
- Active registration with the Maharashtra State Pharmacy Council, in good standing.
- Working English plus fluent Hindi and Marathi at the counter.
- Comfortable on your feet for an eight-hour shift and willing to rotate across morning, evening and late shifts on a published roster.
- Sound understanding of Schedule H, H1 and X dispensing rules under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rules, 1945.
- Basic comfort with billing software and barcode scanners — you do not need to be technical, you need to not be afraid of the screen.
Bonus, not required.
If you have one or two of these, mention them in the cover note. Don’t self-select out if you don’t.
- One or more years at an organised retail chain (Apollo, MedPlus, Wellness Forever, Noble, Tata 1mg) or a hospital pharmacy.
- Experience counselling on diabetes or cardiac care specifically.
- Familiarity with GST-compliant retail billing and e-invoicing flows.
- Interest in giving structured feedback on the RASAYAN dispensing UI as we roll it out in-store.
Honest filters so you can decide before we both spend the time. None of these are deal-breakers if you have a different point of view — say so in the cover note.
- You see the pharmacy counter as a stop-gap on the way to a medical representative job — we want pharmacists who want to be pharmacists.
- You are uncomfortable saying "this prescription is not clear, I will call the doctor" in front of a waiting customer.
- You expect a fixed 9-to-6 desk routine; the shop runs late and the roster reflects that.
Honest about the money.
