Counter Associate
The first face customers see. The first hands on the box.
What this role is, in plain words.
This is an entry-level role at the Khadakpada counter for someone who has finished 12th and wants a real start in pharmacy retail. You will work alongside a registered pharmacist, learn the shop floor, and become the person regulars ask for by name.
We are not looking for prior experience. We are looking for someone steady, polite, and curious — who can switch between Marathi, Hindi and English in the same sentence and not flinch when the counter is six-deep on a Sunday evening.
What is different here: we sponsor D.Pharm study for associates who stay a year and want to qualify as pharmacists. Treat this as the first rung, not the last. You will also be one of the first humans to use the RASAYAN point-of-sale day to day, which means your annoyances reach the people building it.
A typical week.
- Greet every customer, take the prescription or request, and pass Schedule H or H1 items to the duty pharmacist before billing.
- Pick OTC items, FMCG, and front-of-counter stock accurately against the bill.
- Run the POS — billing, UPI, card, cash — and balance the till at end of shift to the rupee.
- Restock shelves from the back room each morning, rotating older stock to the front so nothing expires unsold.
- Receive courier and distributor deliveries: match invoice to physical count, flag short or damaged stock, and shelve into the right rack.
- Keep the counter, fridge front and floor visibly clean — pharmacy hygiene is a customer signal, not a chore.
- Take phone orders and home-delivery requests, log them clearly, and hand off to the delivery rider with the correct bill and change float.
- Learn five new molecule names every week from the duty pharmacist and write them in the shift notebook.
Must-haves.
- 12th pass (any stream) from a recognised board.
- Conversational English plus fluent Hindi and Marathi.
- Honest with cash and stock — this role handles both every day.
- Available for rotating shifts including evenings, Sundays and public holidays.
- Patient with elderly customers and customers who do not read English labels.
- Basic phone-and-app literacy — UPI apps, WhatsApp, a touchscreen POS.
Bonus, not required.
If you have one or two of these, mention them in the cover note. Don’t self-select out if you don’t.
- Currently enrolled in D.Pharm or planning to enrol.
- Prior counter experience at any retail format (not necessarily pharmacy).
- Comfortable on a two-wheeler with a valid licence, for the occasional local delivery.
- A genuine interest in medicine, biology or healthcare beyond just needing a job.
Honest filters so you can decide before we both spend the time. None of these are deal-breakers if you have a different point of view — say so in the cover note.
- You find it hard to apologise to a customer when the shop is in the wrong.
- You want a role where you sit down most of the day.
- You expect to skip the basics — counting strips, sweeping the floor, restocking shelves — because you have bigger plans.
Honest about the money.
